“No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally – and often far more – worth reading at the age of fifty and beyond.”
C.S. Lewis

Once upon a time, my first thought in the morning...straight out of bed...was what cereal I was going to have that day. Nowadays, I try to pray before I get out of bed and then make a scramble for coffee and my favorite morning spot so I can read my Bible and morning devotions. I emphasize "try" because it is a daily discipline and many times I fail.

But when I do follow my morning joy, starting off with prayer, time spent reading the Bible, and asking God to keep me on his path, truly, there's no better feeling.

  1. Why is it so hard to start the day with regular bible reading. I never forget to eat, clean my teeth, read the newspaper or numerous other things. Gotta try harder.

  2. I'm glad you shared that because I think we all struggle with it. Everyone has to figure out what works best for them. I think the smallest commitment - even one paragraph a day - guided by the Spirit can do wonders! I started out on my own and then began reading one chapter of the Bible a day with a small group of friends and we emailed our favorite verse (one only). I think it was that group support that helped me the most.
